🧄 Introduction & Description
Nothing beats the aroma of freshly baked Garlic Bread Rolls straight from the oven. These soft, fluffy rolls are loaded with rich garlic butter and a hint of herbs, making them the perfect side for pasta, soups, or just on their own as a snack.
Unlike traditional garlic bread sliced from a loaf, these rolls are individually portioned, soft on the inside with a golden, buttery crust outside. Perfect for family dinners, parties, or meal prepping, these rolls are a guaranteed crowd-pleaser.
The secret to their irresistible flavor? Generous garlic butter spread inside and on top, fresh herbs like parsley, and a tender dough that’s easy to work with.
📝 Ingredients (U.S. Standard Measurements)
For the dough:
- 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 ¼ teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm water (about 110°F)
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- ½ cup whole milk, warm
For the garlic butter:
- ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon dried oregano (optional)
👩🍳 Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the dough
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir and let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, warm milk, and softened butter. Mix and knead (by hand or stand mixer) for about 8–10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
Step 2: First rise
Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place for 1 to 1 ½ hours or until doubled in size.
Step 3: Shape the rolls
Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball. Flatten slightly and spread a small amount of garlic butter inside, then roll up or fold as you like. Place rolls on a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet.
Step 4: Second rise
Cover the rolls and let them rise again for 30–40 minutes until puffy.
Step 5: Add garlic butter topping
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Mix remaining garlic butter ingredients if you have leftover. Brush the tops of the rolls generously with garlic butter.
Step 6: Bake
Bake rolls for 15–18 minutes or until golden brown on top.
Step 7: Serve warm
Brush with any remaining garlic butter right after baking for extra flavor. Serve warm.

🔥 Tips & Tricks
- For extra soft rolls, brush the tops with melted butter immediately after baking.
- Add shredded mozzarella or parmesan cheese inside or on top for a cheesy garlic roll.
- Use fresh garlic for the best flavor; garlic powder can be used in a pinch but isn’t as vibrant.
- Let the dough rise in a warm, draft-free place to ensure good yeast activity.
- Freeze unbaked rolls by shaping them and placing them on a tray in the freezer. Once frozen, transfer to a bag and bake directly from frozen, adding a few extra minutes.
💡 My Special Touch
To add a bit of a twist, I sometimes sprinkle red pepper flakes over the garlic butter before baking for a subtle kick. You can also experiment with herbs like rosemary or thyme to customize the flavor.
